Abstract: At approximately 4:00 p.m. on April 24, 2001, two employees who are HVAC technicians were inspecting a swamp cooler located on a customer's roof for servicing. Just before the accident, Employee #1 and his coworker had the panels and filters off while the cooler was running to observe if the cooling unit was running properly. The unit was then shut off. As the motor was slowing down, Employee #1 turned to his coworker to say something. As Employee #1 was turning left, his right hand touched the pulley belt which was turning the cooler fan. Three of his fingers were pulled into the pinch point between the belt and pulley belt wheel that was driven by the motor. Employee #1 sustained an injury of the right index finger consisting of a chipped bone at the tip of his finger and as well as laceration of tissue at the tip of his finger that was sewed back on. The injured lost a finger nail but since regenerated it. Employee #1 was treated for his injuries but was not hospitalized.
