Abstract: Employee #1 was a laborer trainee for the Shasta County Opportunity Center, a county government social services agency that trained handicapped individuals so that they could enter the work force. He was clearing weeds from the side of a road when a passing vehicle went off the paved road. The car traveled over the berm and ran over a paddle marker and a sign before striking Employee #1. He was thrown up onto the windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle and suffered compound fractures to his left leg. Employee #1 was taken by air ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, CA. The highway patrol report indicated that the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of prescription drugs.
