Abstract: At approximately 2:00 p.m. on July 23, 2001, Employee #1 was cutting 0.75-in. stock of wood on an Altendorf Sliding Table Saw. The table saw did not have a self-adjusting hood guard. Employee #1 had made several cuts of the wood, when he reached under the guard to clear away the scrap material from behind the blade. As he cleared the material, the index finger of his right hand contacted the blade. The rotating blade amputated the finger below the first knuckle. Emergency medical services were summoned and he was transported to the hospital. He was hospitalized for treatment and then released.
