Abstract: At 9:45 a.m. on March 10, 2000, Employee #1 got his left leg caught between two conveyors. Employee #1 worked in the Number 65c area where fifty pound bags are filled with diatomaceous earth. It is Employee #1's job to take the bags from where they are being filled and place them on a 22-inch wide conveyor belt. This belt goes a short distance to where it enters an area where there is a top conveyor belt. This top belt floats on top of the bags with 300 to 350 pounds of weight to push the air out of the bags. From time to time a bag will land crooked on the belt and when it reaches the top belt, the bag will tear. Employee #1, knowing this, used his left leg to kick the bag over to straighten it out. When he did this, his leg got caught between the bag and the top belt. Employee #1 was able to stop the belts with the emergency stop cord. He was taken to the medical center, treated and released. Employee #1 tore some ligaments in his knee.
