Abstract: At 7:45 a.m. on March 27, 1997, Employee #1 was adjusting the timing on an Angeles seamer, model #69. The power was on and the machine was operating during the adjustment. Employee #1 had removed the guard from the adjusting lever and was working on the timing when he set his left hand on the cam shaft. The machine turned and the very tip of his left thumb was lacerated. Employee #1 was transported to the Santa Paula emergency room, where he was treated and released within 1.5 hours. The employer was issued a general citation for failing to ensure that the guard was in place prior to the machine operating.
