Abstract: At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 10, 2010, Employee #1 of Basile Construction, Incorporated, was working near a Caterpillar Bobcat skidsteer/loader. Employee #2, the Caterpillar Bobcat operator, told Employee #1 to remove tools (shovels and a breaker bar) from a trench, where a 12 ft underground water line was being installed. Employee #2 was preparing to dump a load of decomposed granite into the trench when Employee #1 bent down in front of the bucket. Employee #2 abruptly applied the brakes as the equipment was cresting a small mound of earth. The momentum of the equipment and the weight contained in the bucket caused the equipment to tip forward. Employee #1 was smashed between the ground and the bucket when the skid-steer tipped forward. He was hospitalized for internal injuries to his digestive organs as well as a fractured pelvis.
