Abstract: At approximately 12:39 a.m. on July 13, 2007, Employee #1 of Cold Stone Creamery was sanitizing an ice cream making machine, Carpigiani Batch Freezer, Lab 500 Coldelite machine, Serial Number 053214. Employee #1 was using a rag to wipe down the opening to the ice cream making machine, where materials were poured into the mixer. She was doing that while the blades were active. The rag was caught on the moving blades and pulled Employee #1's finger down into the machine. The blades amputated the last joint of her middle finger. A coworker heard Employee #1's yell and called paramedics to the scene. Employee #1 was transported to UCSD Hospital in La Jolla, California.
