Abstract: At approximately 7:30 a.m. on January 13, 2004, Employee #1 was operating a Newman multi-trim saw machine. He was ensuring that the product was continually fed to the six blades on the machine, the finished pieces were properly directed to the finish conveyor belt, and the waste wood pieces were properly directed on the waste conveyor belt to the trash dumpster. He noticed that the waste conveyor belt was jammed with a 3-inch by 3-inch piece of wood caught on the underside of the belt. As he tried to free the piece of wood with his left hand, his hand and arm were pulled into the nip point created between the conveyor belt head pulley area and the conveyor belt. He was hospitalized with a fracture.
