Abstract: At approximately 10:30 a.m. on November 12, 1997, Employee #1 was working in a sausage packing department. She began operating a Curwood packing machine, Pioneer model, serial #451225,a unit with which she had no experience. At the time of the accident, Employee #1 was feeding the top and bottom film into the vacuum chamber and the heat sealing area. Suddenly the machine advanced, crushing her right middle and ring fingers in the seal bar and amputating the top portion of both fingers. She was transported to Advantage Care Medical Group, where she was treated and released the following day. The packing machine was manufactured by the American Packing Machinery Company.
