Abstract: On August 31, 2005, Employee #1 was a regular employee of a plant nursery. His job was to call on homes and other establishments and deliver house plants that had been ordered. He was delivering house plants, making the rounds in a Ford F-650 stake bed truck, with a bed that was 24 feet long and 8 feet wide. Arriving at a house in Long Beach, CA, he parked the truck in a narrow driveway between two adjoining houses. As he stood on the truck bed near the open end unloading house plants, he lost consciousness and fell from the truck bed 4.5 feet to the ground. He sustained a skull fracture. Employee #1 was hospitalized in the St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach for four days. He did not remember anything about the accident, and there were no witnesses. It has been determined that the accident was not work-related.
