Abstract: On May 23, 1996, Employee #1 was using a 3/4 in. wrench to tighten speed fit gear that was located toward the back of Davenport screw machine #23. He was tightening the gear when the machine reactivated, and the teeth of the gears caught the upper part of his right little finger. The machine was deactivated, enabling Employee #1 to remove his finger. He was brought to Torrance Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the crushed portion of his finger.
