Abstract: At approximately 3:00 p.m. on April 24, 2007, Employees #1, #2, and #3 were working as New York State Police Troopers. Employee #3 was in Troop C, Employee #1 was in Troop F, and Employee #2 was in Troop K. Employee #3 was performing a routine traffic stop of a suspect in the village of Margaretville, NY, when he was shot in the chest. His personal protective equipment (body armor) deflected the bullet, and he was not injured or hospitalized. The suspect escaped, and a manhunt was initiated in the Margaretville, NY, area. On the following morning, April 25, 2007, during the period of 7:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., a burglar alarm was activated between Margaretville and Arkville, NY. A New York State Police Mobile Response Team, including Employees #1 and #2, responded to the alarm. Shots were fired, and at 8:45 a.m., Employee #1 sustained a gunshot wound to his head. He was transported to Margaretville Memorial Hospital, where he died from his head wound. Employee #2 was shot in the arm. He was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was hospitalized.
