Abstract: On November 20, 2004, an employee was installing and pulling cable near MUSC. Cable tugger was anchored near the edge of a concrete side walk and was pulling cable through underground piping. The tugger exerts a maximum force of 8,000 lbs. The employee walked approximately 70 ft in front of the tugger to check the progress of the cable trailer when the tugger broke free of the concrete and flew through the air, striking the employee in the back with the 101 lbs tugger, breaking his spine. At the time the tugger broke free of the concrete, it was exerting 6,000 pounds of force.
