Abstract: Employee #1 was working on top of the north wall, toenailing his end of a 40 ft long truss. He and a coworker were taking a truss to the far end of the top plate on top of the wall, and placing it 2 ft on center. Before the binding straps on a 10-pack of trusses were undone, Employee #1 and another coworker were supposed to wait for a scissor lift to support the center; this would relieve pressure and increase the supporting length on the top plates. Employee #1 thought the scissor lift platform was already in place and he broke the binding straps. When this happened, the trusses recoiled from the increased pressure and moved toward Employee #1. He tried to counter the effect but he and the trusses fell to the floor. Employee #1 fractured three vertebrae and suffered a contusion on his left side. The sequence of events was not conclusive as to the accident's cause. There were no witnesses, and Employee #1 and the other workers placing trusses were working independently of one another.
