Abstract: At approximately 10:00 a.m. on June 4, 1996, Employee #1 was using a Makita table saw to cut a 2 by 4. He was holding the lumber with his left hand while pushing it into the saw blade using a guiding rod in his right hand when the board kicked back. As Employee #1 tried to grab the 2 by 4, his left arm was pulled into the saw. He suffered a fractured arm and amputated index finger. Employee #1 was transported to Saint John's Hospital, where his finger was surgically reattached; he was released from the hospital after 2 1/2 hours. The table saw was not guarded.
