Abstract: Employee #1 was cleaning a jam on a Diehl 99 stake machine. He was standing next to the feed rolls, with his gloved hand resting on the chain guard, when the sprocket teeth caught his glove and pulled it into the chain and sprocket, amputating the tip of his ring finger. Employee #1 had worked at the sawmill for two months, and at his station for two weeks, before the accident. The guard's inside flange did not extend far enough down to cover the root of the teeth on the sprocket.
