Abstract: Employees of Yreka Forestry Service, a small reforestation company, were installing posts for a rail system at a road edge. Employee #1 was operating a gasoline powered auger. When the engine of the auger kicked back (backfired) the gas cap on the fuel tank fell off and fuel was splashed onto Employee #1's clothing. Somehow, the fuel ignited, burning his legs. Employee #1 received second- and third-degree burns to both legs. He was taken to the emergency room at Lassen Community Hospital, Susanville, CA, and then transfered to Rogue Valley Hospital, Medford, OR.
