Abstract: At approximately 11:00 a.m. on September 13, 1994, Employee #1, an apprentice mechanic, and a coworker, a journeyman mechanic, were removing a heavy radiator (80 to 100 lb) from an Army M577 personnel carrier. As the two employees lowered the radiator from its mounting hardware, the radiator slipped and fell from the grasp of Employee #1. Employee #1 caught his right middle finger in a pinch point between the radiator housing and either the engine valve cover or a section of air duct that was in proximity. The first digit of his right middle finger was amputated. There are no standards in T8CCR that are applicable to this operation; therefore, no violations were cited.
