Abstract: A 35-year-old electrician was standing on a 1.8-meter (6-foot) fiberglass insulated ladder, working on a 277-volt florescent lighting fixture. He was working alone. Nearby workers heard a loud noise from the room the electrician was working in. When they entered the room, they found him lying on the floor, unconscious and bleeding from the head. The ladder was still standing. He was transported to a hospital and placed on a life-support machine. At the family's request, the life support was discontinued; and the employee died. Although there was no evidence of electrical burns, the cause of death was suspected to be electrocution. (It is also possible that he lost his balance, fell from the ladder, and died of his head injury.)
