Abstract: A three-person power line crew was transferring a 4800-volt overhead power line from an old pole to a new one. An apprentice power line worker was on the old pole, and the crew foreman was on the new pole. The apprentice's foot contacted the unprotected secondary neutral conductor, and his neck contacted the primary conductor on which he had been working. (The gaff on the employee's right foot might have cut out from the pole, and he might have made contact while he was attempting to regain his balance.) Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation was started while the injured employee was still on the pole and continued after he was lowered to the ground. The rescue efforts were to no avail, however, as the apprentice was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. He had been electrocuted.
