Abstract: At 11:00 a.m. on March 19, 1992, Employee #1 was operating a small homemade rip saw when the sawdust collector became plugged. When Employee #1 reached through an unguarded opening to pull out some of the thin edge trimmings, his fingers contacted the blades. Employee #1 was taken to Ride Out Emergency Hospital in Marysville, then transferred to Fremont Hospital in Yuba City, where he stayed for three days and was treated for the following injuries to his left hand: amputated digital half of index finger; broken thumb with laceration (numb); and crushing/shearing injuries to the other three fingers. Employee #1 underwent surgery on June 19, 1992, for his index finger and thumb. The employee was a chop-saw operator and rarely operated the rerip saw.
