Abstract: At approximately 8:25 a.m. on January 12, 1994, Employee #1, of the Willamette Pass Ski Resort, stepped out of the motorhouse located on an elevated section of an A-frame structure for a ski lift drive terminal. These motors are used daily to put tension on the cable lines of the ski lift. Employee #1 had already activated the motors to start the tensioning of the cable lines. As the motors turn the bullwheel of the cable lines, the entire motorhouse travels on steel tracks toward the end of the A-frame structure. As the motorhouse was in the travel mode, Employee #1 stepped out of it and positioned himself on the corner of the access platform. While standing in this position, he was pinned between the A-frame structure and the moving motorhouse. Employee #1 was killed.
