Abstract: On August 11, 1988 Employee #1, a lawn care crew member for Maintain Incorporated, was using a 36-in. self-propelled Exmark lawn mower. At 6:00 p.m. he took a water break and joked with other employees. At 6:15 p.m. he was observed mowing, and at 6:30 p.m. he was found huddled by the mower, hot and dry. Employee #1 was carried to the shed and wiped down with water. An ambulance took him to the Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas. His core temperature was 108 degrees Farenheit. He died August 12, 1988 at 4:14 a.m. Cause of death was listed as hyperthermia. On the day of the accident, the outside temperature was 96 degrees Farenheit, with a heat index of 107 degrees Farenheit. Employee #1 had worked a total of 97 hours during the 2-week pay period of his death.
