Abstract: On June 12, 2000, Employee #1 was installing drywall on the interior of the third floor of a commercial building. He had placed a Perry scaffold at the open side of the building within 2 ft of the perimeter. The scaffold did not have the guardrails attached. Employee #1 was working overhead and screwing the drywall in place when he stepped backward off the unguarded end of the scaffold and fell approximately 6 ft onto a concrete floor. He fractured his right arm in two places and fractured his right ankle. Employee #1, an experienced drywall installer, misjudged the hazard of working on scaffolding without guardrails. If guardrails had been in place, he would not have fallen.
