Abstract: At 2:30 p.m. on May 29, 2018, Employee #1 was hitching a small utility pacesetter trailer to an F-250 super duty Ford pickup. The employee was in a hurry to get the work done quickly, so instead of following procedures for hitching trailers, he decided to take a shortcut. Regular procedures are to align the truck ball with the trailer tongue, use the trailer jack to raise/lower the tongue so that it falls onto the ball of the truck, link the chains to the hitch, and connect the light plug. Employee #1 stated that since he was in a hurry, he did not use the trailers jack to raise/lower the tongue onto the trailer ball hitch. Because it was a small trailer, he picked it up manually to place it onto the truck. As he let go of the trailer, his finger became caught by the tongue coupler socket, smashing it between the trucks ball and the trailer's tongue, resulting in a partial amputation of his right hand middle finger. The employee was hospitalized for his injury.
