Abstract: At 3:15 p.m. on October 24, 2017, an employee was working as a maintenance worker for a firm that made pallets. He worked at pallet-manufacturing facility. He was not a contract employee. He was using a table bandsaw to dismantle pallets. A pallet had become jammed in the bandsaw. The employee was trying to clear the jam. When he reached his hand in to clear the pallet, the little finger on his right hand came into contact with the bandsaw. The employee's finger was amputated below the distal phalanx (the nail bend). The employee was transported to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, where he was hospitalized for more than 24 hours. The incident was reported at 4:20 p.m. that same day. The employer complied with the reporting requirements, and he injury was reported within eight hours after learning of a serious injury or hospitalization.
