Investigation Summary

On October 12, 2020, an employee who was assigned by a farm labor staffing company to work at a harvesting facility was hospitalized with COVID-19. A coworker at the facility had died from COVID-19, although details are still pending. The coworker was working in the same section of the company, doing the same job as the employee who was hospitalized. The coworker was an onion sorter who packaged onions. June 29, 2020 was the coworker's last day of work at the facility. On July 6, 2020, the coworker reported to his employer that he was sick but was not COVID-19 positive. On July 7, 2020, the coworker went to the hospital and died on August 16, 2020. The employee for this case called his employer and reported that he was positive for COVID-19 six days after the last day he worked for the company. The narrative does not indicate his last work date or the date he called to report he was ill. The employer did not have an effective COVID-19 Prevention Program in place.
