Employee attempts to stop fall from elevated platform and am

At 7:00 a.m. on July 7, 2018, an employee was cleaning the dryer conveyor belt while it was in operation. The employee heard a noise coming from the conveyor and removed an expanded metal guard. The employee lost his balance and started to fall off the platform when he stuck his left arm into the hole that was previously protected by the guard. The employee amputated his left hand and was hospitalized.
