Employee is struck by traffic debris and is killed

At 10:30 a.m. on September 6, 2013, an employee was on the side of a highway loading tools onto his work truck behind a concrete construction barrier in a protected work zone. A vehicle traveling on the highway lost a piece of metal resembling a mower deck shaft. The metal bounced several times on the highway and then bounced over the concrete construction barrier. The metal struck the employee in the back of the head and he was killed.
