Investigation Summary

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on December 14, 2009, Employee #1, an employee and coowner of a landscaping business, was reviewing the job site (a private residence) where a two-man crew had been cutting down and trimming trees and branches along the homeowner's driveway. He had been contacted by his crew that the job was completed. While he was reviewing the site, a large 7-foot section of dead tree branch fell from the top of a tree that had not had work performed on it. He was not wearing head protection and was standing approximately 24 feet from the tree. The falling branch bounced off lower limbs as it fell and struck Employee #1's head. He was knocked unconscious, and emergency medical services were called. He was transported by Bainbridge Fire and Rescue to the Solon Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
