Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202613444
Event: 06/10/2010
Employee suffers fractures by falling drywall sheets

At approximately 9:40 am, on June 10, 2010, Employee #1 suffered a serious (multiple fracture) injury while moving a cart. Employee #1 was moving a cart loaded with nine drywall sheets (each weighing approximately 110 lbs, dimensions 12 ft., long by 4 ft., wide and 5/8 in., tall) to clear main double door entry for moving out a rental aerial work platform. The sheets were lying on their length side and loosely set along the railing handle of the cart. As the employee tried to move the cart in forward direction by grabbing one top corner of the railing handle with his one hand when its wheels ran over power extension cords. At that time, the weight of the sheets shifted at the farthest end toppling the cart over and pinning the employee underneath it causing fracture of both his ankles and multiple serious bodily injuries. Employee #1 was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
