Employee Is Struck by Pallet Jack, Fractures Pelvis

An employee was operating a Raymond Model Number 8300 electric pallet jack while unloading frozen dairy products from a truck. The employee was to use the Raymond electric pallet jack to remove the shrink wrapped pallets from the truck and stage them a short distance away for other employees to use manual pallet jack to take those pallets to the freezer. The pallets were stacked with cardboard boxes approximately 70-in. high and shrink wrapped to keep them steady. While the employee was moving a pallet to the staging area, Employee #1 was removing a cardboard box from the box crusher and taking it to the cardboard box bailer. Employee #1 had to travel through the staging area to get to the cardboard box bailer. Employee #1 was struck by the load on the electric pallet jack and fell against a metal shelf fracturing his pelvis. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
