Employee Using Table Saw Lacerates Fingers

At approximately 11:00 a.m. on October 17, 2011, Employee #1 was working as a maintenance person for The Mosser Companies, Inc., dba 935 Kearny St. LLC, in San Francisco, CA. He was using a hand-fed Skilsaw Model 3400 table saw to rip a piece of wood, when he cut the thumb, first, and second fingers on his left hand. The employee was transported by another employee to California Pacific Medical Center, where he was admitted. The employee underwent surgery on his fingers, and he was released five days later. On October 19, 2011, the employer reported the incident to the Division. The employer was cited for one regulatory violation, 8CCR 342(a) for late reporting; two serious violations, 8CCR 4300.1(a) for no guarding on the machine, and 8CCR 4300.1(c)(2) for no push stick being used; and a Notice for 8CCR 3203(a).
