Employee Loses Fingers When Crushed By A Hot Press Machine

On October 14, 2001, Employee #1, a hot press operator on Press Number 3, loaded the hot press with wood and pressed the close button. He saw a piece of wood sticking out of the press. He raised himself on the platform to a height that he could reach the wood, and then, he pushed the wood in with his hand. Employee #1 lost his fingers on his left hand when they were crushed and burned between the press tray and the plywood. Employee #1 was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
