Investigation Summary
On August 13, 2001, an employee was operating a chain saw to cut a 90-foot-high swamp chestnut tree with a 32-inch diameter. Twenty feet from the swamp, chestnut tree stood an 80-foot high hickory tree. The hickory tree had a 24-inch diameter trunk. Branches from both trees had grown into the air space of each tree. As the employee was cutting the swamp chestnut tree a limb from the hickory tree broke away and fell 60 feet striking the employee on the head causing his death.
