Investigation Summary
At 5:45 p.m. on December 7, 2000, Employee #1 was working on the centerline of a highway using a prism rod to traverse control points for new highway construction. A van that was traveling eastbound down the highway at approximately 80 miles per hour crossed into the centerline and struck Employee #1 in the back. Upon impact, the van carried Employee #1 over 200 feet down the highway when he was dislodged from the van, landing face down in a westbound ditch on the side of the highway. Employee #1 was pronounced dead at the scene by the County Coroner.
