Investigation Summary
Employee #1 set up his surveying equipment in the middle of a railroad track to survey the surrounding area. The engineer of a southbound Burlington Northern Sante Fe diesel locomotive pulling 55 cars saw Employee #1 between 1 and 1 1/2 miles up the track and blew his whistle in warning. Employee #1 failed to respond to the train as it approached. The train struck Employee #1 and dragged him approximately 107 ft before stopping. He was killed.
