Employee's Finger Is Crushed When Fan Motor Falls on It

On May 2, 2005, an employee was standing-by, observing four other coworkers attempting to install a fan motor assembly by using two chain falls, two beam clamps, and two nylon slings. As coworkers were hoisting the load into place they realized the load was positioned incorrectly. As they began to lower the load, it slipped within the rigging, swung and crushed the employee's finger against the longitudinal section of the ship's interior. The employee's left index finger was amputated. He was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, where he was hospitalized and treated for amputation.
