Employee Killed by Fall Down Stairs

At approximately 10:50 a.m. on June 8, 2004, Employee #1, a facilities manager, and another worker were moving a 37.5-in. by 60-in. drafting table from a first-floor classroom to a second- floor conference room. The worker was in front of the table and Employee #1 was at the lower end of the table as they were proceeding up the staircase. As they reached the top of the stair, Employee #1 lost his balance and fell with the table down the staircase to the marble floor at the bottom of the staircase. Employee #1 was taken to Northridge Hospital by ambulance where the he was hospitalized. Employee #1 died the next day due to multiple blunt force injuries. The stairs and the stair rails were in good condition at the time of the accident.
