Investigation Nr: 170701064
Event: 09/08/1997
Employee's finger amputated in stamping machine

Employee #1, a stamping equipment operator, had just used the rope starter cord to start a Vibra Plate stamping machine. He had the cord, which was not attached to the machine, around his left wrist while adjusting the idle speed. The cord became caught in the starter portion of the flywheel and pulled his left hand into the rotating parts. Employee #1's first finger was amputated at the first knuckle. He had removed the guard from the starter area while adjusting the idle speed.
