Event: 10/16/1993
Employee jumps off roof after sliding to edge

On October 16, 1993, Employee #1, an employee of Giant Step Construction, Inc., was roofing the house of the owner of Giant Step Construction, which had a slope of 5:12. The crew had finished sheeting and tar papering the roof. Employee #1 started to spread a black vinyl tarp over the roof because rain was forecasted for that night. As he was spreading it out, he stepped on a wet spot on the tarp and started sliding down the roof. He could not stop his slide. At the eaves, which were 16 feet above the concrete driveway, he jumped to the driveway, breaking his left heel and both ankles.
