SUFFERS A CONCUSSION- FALLS FROM UNGUARDED OPENING IN ROOF

At about 3:00 p.m. on September 17, 1997, Employee #1 was in a serious accident which occurred at a two-story apartment complex. Employee #1 worked for a roofing company called Pegnato and Pegnato Roof Management. He was on the roof of building Number 22 conducting a survey for needed roof repairs and general site conditions. At the northeast area, he fell through a 3 by 8-foot, flush, unguarded opening. The fall distance was measured at 19 feet, 9 inches. Employee #1 landed on a concrete walkway and suffered a concussion. Fire department paramedics transported him to Northridge Hospital with serious head injuries due to blunt force trauma.
