Employee killed when caught in mixer

Employee #1 was working as a temporary hod carrier for Giulinani Bros. His job was to mix and carry mortar to a stone mason. Employee #1 had emptied mix from the 6 hp, 6 cu ft Muller mortar mixer into a wheelbarrow. The mixer's guard was not on the top of the drum, but was hanging down the back of the drum. After dumping the mix, Employee #1 somehow got his right hand caught in the moving paddles and was pulled into the drum. When the mixer motor stalled, Employee #1's hand was under one paddle at the bottom of the drum; his chest was against the opposing paddle at the rear top of the drum. Employee #1's head, neck, and shoulders were between the two paddles. Employee #1 sustained fatal injuries. There were no witnesses to the accident.
