US Department of Labor, American Chemistry Council work to strengthen safety in polyurethane industry through Alliance Program Ambassador

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the American Chemistry Council Center for the Polyurethanes Industry, and Diisocyanates and Aliphatic Diisocyanates Panels – collectively known as ACC – have agreed to continue their collaboration through an Alliance Program Ambassador relationship. This ongoing commitment aims to promote best practices and improve worker health and safety standards within the polyurethanes industry and the user community.

OSHA and ACC established an alliance in September 2017 and renewed it in 2020 to focus on protecting workers' safety and health by reducing exposure to hazardous chemicals in manufacturing and improving understanding of related health concerns. OSHA and ACC remain committed to improving safety practices in America's workplaces.

Through the alliance, OSHA and ACC have developed safety and health resources for the polyurethanes industry such as a personal protective equipment infographic for automotive refinishing and comprehensive medical screening and surveillance guides addressing chemical exposure risks.

ACC has also participated in technical information exchange sessions with the OSHA Technical Center and supported national safety initiatives, including Safe + Sound, Heat Illness Prevention, and Fall Prevention.

OSHA confers Ambassador status to long-term alliance participants who agree to continue a cooperative relationship and who share timely and relevant safety and health information with its stakeholders. Unlike regular alliances, ambassador relationships do not need to be renewed and remain in effect for the duration of an ongoing cooperative relationship and a good faith effort by both parties to meet the intent of the arrangement.
