- Title:Occupational Exposure to Asbestos, Tremolite, Anthophyllite, and Actinolite; Notice of proposed rulemaking
OSHA is conducting supplemental rulemaking on its standards, issued 6/17/86, for occupational exposure to asbestos, tremolite, anthophyllite, and actinolite in general industry and in the construction industry. The rulemaking record was reopened 7/18/86 to reconsider OSHA''s decision to regulate the substances in the same manner as asbestos. An administrative stay of enforcement of the standards, insofar as they apply to these substances, was extended to November 1990 and the 1972 standard was reissued, and renumbered as 1910.1101 to provide continuity and protection while rulemaking continued. OSHA proposes to lift the administrative stay, remove 29 CFR 1910.1101, and amend the revised asbestos standards (29 CFR 1910.1001; 1926.58) to remove non-asbestiform tremolite, anthophyllite and actinolite from their scope. This notice requests public comment, data and information on the issue of whether OSHA should take the action proposed, adopt some other alternative, or continue to regulate the substances in the same manner as asbestos. An informal hearing will be held in Washington, DC on 5/8/90;postmark deadline for comments is 4/9/ 90. For information contact James Foster (202)523-8151.
