- Activities and Products
This report summaries activities through the Alliance and includes activities since the report of January, 2012.
The foundation of the Alliance is OSHA's participation in training sessions and the OSHA 10-Hour program established by Local 150. Alliance activities were previously expanded to include an OSHA topic at the annual HAZWOPER refresher training offered through Local 150. Local 150 also works with the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) on conducting the Cranes & Rigging (#2050) and Concrete Forms & Shoring (#3030) courses. These courses are held at the ASIP training facility in Wilmington, IL.
Participation in the OSHA 10/30 hour courses were as follows:
Date Location In Attendance 1/31/12 Wilmington 40 2/13/13 Wilmington 20 2/24/12 Merrillville, IN 30 4/3/12 Wilmington 20 4/10/13 Wilmington 20 6/25/12 Wilmington 30 8/22/12 Wilmington 15* 11/13/12 Wilmington 20 12/7/12 Rock Island 30 12/17/12 Wilmington 20 1/7/13 Wilmington 20 1/22/13 Wilmington 35** 1/28/13 Wilmington 30 2/4/13 Wilmington 35 2/19/13 Wilmington 17 2/22/13 Merrillville, IN 20 3/4/13 Wilmington 25 3/11/13 Wilmington 21** 3/25/13 Wilmington 22** 3/28/13 Wilmington 26 4/1/13 Wilmington 30 4/16/13 Wilmington 35* 7/16/13 Wilmington 40 8/21/13 Wilmington 20* TOTAL 621
The sessions marked with an "*" notes OSHA 10 Hour courses offered through Local 150 for High School teachers specializing in vocational programs and students in these programs. This represented a very unique opportunity for educators and students to obtain an OSHA 10-Hour card and for OSHA to interact with this audience.
The sessions marked with an "**" were OSHA 30 Hour courses.
Participation in HAWOPER refresher courses were as follows
Date Location In Attendance 1/7/12 Rock Island 40 1/14/12 Lakemoore 140 1/21/12 Joliet 156 2/4/12 Rockford 125 2/11/12 Countryside 290 3/3/12 Merrillville, IN 187 3/24/12 Utica 101 3/31/12 Wilmington 147 12/15/12 Wilmington 124 1/5/13 Rock Island 50 1/12/13 Lakemoore 140 1/19/13 Joliet 100 2/2/13 Rockford 110 2/9/13 Countryside 295 3/2/13 Merrillville, IN 150 TOTAL 2155
Each session included a Q / A session between Local 150 attendees and OSHA personnel. Ten Region 5 employees attended the HAZWOPER training to satisfy their annual refresher training requirement.
Additional projects included a 40 Hour HAZWOPER course for the Region 5 Compliance Staff; there were twelve (12) Region 5 employees that attended. It was noted that the HAZWOPER session included exercises while the participants were dressed in "Level A" suits.
As indicated in prior evaluations of this Alliance, the value of this type of cooperative action, especially with the limited availability of these resources to OSHA, can not be overstated.
Training materials used in 2012 and 2013 includes the handouts for the OSHA 10 Hour, OSHA 30 Hour, HAZWOPER and HAZWOPER refresher courses reference above. These materials were assembled by Local 150 and OSHA especially for these training sessions. Previous training products developed through the Alliance include the Power Point and webinar material used in the Quick Coupler training and the material provided during the Tower Crane training.
This Alliance has been very successful in continuing the strong relationship between OSHA and Local 150. This Alliance should be considered a major success, and the cooperation of Local 150 should be commended.
- Upcoming Milestones
Local 150 Apprenticeship and Skill Improvement Program (ASIP) will continue to provide HAZWOPER Refresher Training for OSHA personnel, as well as work with the OSHA Training Institute on Crane Courses. OSHA will provide speakers for the OSHA 10 and 30 hour courses, as well as HAZWOPER Refresher courses.
OSHA and ASIP will meet early in Fiscal Year 2014 to discuss future products that may be developed as part of the Alliance, as well as training sessions that will be conducted in FY14.
