    3. Overview:

       

      The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), represented by the Atlanta Regional, Atlanta-East, Atlanta-West and Savannah, GA, Area Offices, the Georgia Tech Research Institute's Occupational Safety and Health Division (GTRI), Southeast Center for Young Worker Safety and Health, and The Concerned Beauty Professionals (The CBP), and (hereafter all parties shall be referred to as The CBP Alliance) formed an Alliance to provide The CBP members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect the health and safety of workers, particularly by reducing and preventing exposure to products that contain hazardous chemicals. Emphasis will also be placed on effectively communicating these issues to hard-to-reach groups, such as youth and Vietnamese workers.

      Alliances participants included the following:

      • Representatives from the OSHA Regional Office
      • Representatives from the Georgia Tech onsite Consultation Program
      • Representatives from The Concerned Beauty Professionals (The CBP)

    In addition to these formal meetings, the Alliance coordinators from both groups maintained regular contact throughout the reporting period to monitor the Alliance's progress and results.

  3. Results

     

    The following table summarizes the Alliance's activities in support of the goals in the Alliance agreement.

    Training and Education: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following training and education goal:

    • To develop effective training and education programs for The CBP members and others regarding reducing and preventing worker exposure to hazardous products. Emphasis will be placed on effectively communicating these issues to hard-to-reach groups, such as youth and Vietnamese workers.
    • To support The CBP in the delivery of health and safety training focused on the prevention of worker exposure to hazardous products.

    Training ( this training is offered on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month) On September 26, 2016, the CBP conducted a Monday School training session for its members.     Training ( this training is offered on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month) On November 15, 2016, the CBP conducted a Monday School training session for its members.     Training ( this training is offered on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month) On November 28, 2016, the CBP conducted a Monday School training session for its members. This training session was led by Hilarie Warren, which focused on injury and illness prevention, as well as management support. Hazard Communication/ Chemical; Small Business; and Young Workers 5
    Training ( this training is offered on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month) On the February 13, the CBP conducted a Monday School Training Program for its members. The training course focused on business, marketing, technology, safety, health and sanitation, as well as the recent Alliance renewal, with OSHA and Georgia Tech.     Outreach and Communication: The Participants intend to work together to achieve the following outreach and communication goals:

    • To develop information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to develop ways of communicating such information (e.g., print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools, and OSHA's and The CBP Web sites) to employers and workers in the industry.
    • To speak, exhibit, or appear at OSHA's or The CBP conferences, local meetings, or other events.

    Presentation/ Speech On Monday, February 6, 2017, the CBP conducted its 2017 Breakfast of Champions with the support of Alliance participants. The event focused on safety and health concerns, maintaining industry standards, as well as other industry concerns.   5. Upcoming Milestones for 2017 - 2018

     

    • The Alliance group will continue its efforts to develop an effective training and education programs for The CBP members and others regarding their potential exposure to hazardous products. Emphasis will be placed on effectively communicating these issues to hard-to-reach groups, such as youth and Vietnamese workers.
    • The Alliance group will continue to conduct effective outreach regarding the potential hazards associated with beauty products.
    • During this period, the Alliance group will attempt to translate and distribute the poster/flyer, which featured five safety tips for Nail Salons.
