    Overview

    OSHA's Alliance with RIMS focuses on promoting the value that successful safety and health management systems add to a worksite, and the impact of using a cooperative approach between OSHA, management, and labor. In addition, the organizations are using their collective expertise to help foster a culture of prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge.

      Training and Education Goals

      • Collect and analyze cost benefit information in order to develop a tool for safety and health professionals to use in demonstrating the cost savings and benefits associated with effective safety and health management systems.

      • Encourage employers to incorporate safety and health into their overall business management systems.

      Outreach and Communication

      • Provide access to OSHA's Compliance Assistance Specialists and Consultation Projects and establish links between OSHA Area Offices and local and state RIMS Chapters.

        OSHA gave a panel presentation on “OSHA's Voluntary Guidelines for Ergonomic Injuries.”

        The RIMS Website features an OSHA-RIMS Alliance Webpage, which includes information about the goals of the Alliance and links to OSHA's Alliance Program and OSHA's Mold Guidelines.

    2. Executive Summary

      Through the Alliance Program, OSHA and RIMS have reached out to RIMS members and others with information on the value of implementing a successful safety and health management system.

      RIMS had leadership changes and staff reductions over the last year. This left several RIMS positions, including the RIMS Alliance coordinator's position, vacant for several months causing the OSHA-RIMS Alliance to be inactive. OSHA and RIMS will discuss the future of the Alliance and possible strategies to achieve the achieve the Alliance goals that have not been addressed to date.

  4. Upcoming Milestones

    The OSHA and RIMS Implementation team have not yet identified programs or projects to address the Alliance goals during the upcoming year. In addition, due to the inactivity of the Alliance during the past year, the implementation team will discuss the future of the Alliance at the next meeting.
