OSHA and Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS)
Alliance Close-Out Report

On October 6, 2003, OSHA and the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) formed an Alliance focusing on improving the safety and health of employees by reducing the number of traffic collisions that occur on the job. In particular, the Alliance focused on advancing a culture of prevention while sharing best practices and increasing access to safety and health information, training resources and technical knowledge to help reduce traffic collisions and related deaths and injuries within the nation's workforce.

OSHA and NETS agreed to conclude the Alliance as of October 6, 2005. However, OSHA and NETS will continue to work together through other avenues to develop and share information on motor vehicle safety. The following successes resulted from OSHA and NET’s working together to meet the Alliance’s goals:

• OSHA promoted NETS’ Drive Safely to Work Week to its Regions and also shared the association’s tools and resources with the field.

• OSHA promoted and attended the NETS Drive Safely to Work Week Employer Symposium which focused on distracted driving September 29, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland.

• OSHA worked with NETS to develop the Agency’s "Guidelines for Employers to Reduce Motor Vehicle Crashes" which discusses how employers can reduce motor vehicle injuries and fatalities in their workforce.

• Representatives of NETS served on the editorial board for OSHA’s Motor Vehicle Safety and Health Topics Page.

• Members of NETS' National Board agreed to give presentations on traffic safety issues and injury reduction for employers when requested by OSHA.

• At the 2004 OSHA Compliance Assistance Training Sessions in Falls Church, Virginia, NETS exhibited and spoke at a session entitled "Promoting Motor Vehicle Safety Through OSHA's Compliance Assistance and Cooperative Programs."
