OSHA and National Construction Safety Executives Alliance
Close-Out Report

On September 20, 2007, OSHA and National Construction Safety Executives (NCSE) formed an Alliance to provide the association's members and others in the construction industry with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety for those who are new to the construction industry, particularly focusing on reducing and preventing exposure to construction site workplace hazards such as falls, electrical, struck-by and caught in-between.

Based on discussions regarding the future of the Alliance, OSHA and NCSE agreed to conclude the Alliance as of September 20, 2009, and to begin planning a new Alliance that includes new training initiatives and sharing best practices with OSHA staff. A number of successes resulted from the agreement including:

  • NCSE representatives were active participants on the OSHA Alliance Program Construction Roundtable and its Design for Safety Workgroup and Fall Protection Workgroup.
     
  • NCSE, and more than 50 other Alliance Program participants and OSHA, helped support the 2009 North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, "Safety Means Always Coming Home.," May 3-9, 2009. Sponsored annually by the American Society of Safety Engineers, an Alliance Program participant, and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Week focuses on the importance of preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
     
  • On October 7, 2009, Elizabeth Way, Director, Office of Outreach Services and Alliances, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation "OSHA Alliance Program" to construction industry safety executives at the National Construction Safety Executives Fall Meeting, in Colorado Springs,
     
  • On April 23, 2009, Steven F. Witt,, Director, Directorate of Cooperative and State Programs, USDOL-OSHA, gave a presentation " OSHA and Cooperative Programs" to construction industry safety executives at the National Construction Safety Executives Spring Meeting, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
